The existing hospital had a special place with a paper mache tree in a room which was used as a learning and play space for patients. When the new hospital was planned, it was important that the “Treehouse” be a part of it. While the room would still have the same function and ambiance, there was no desire to bring the old paper mache tree to the new space. The design of the new tree allows the patient to go inside the tree. Nursing staff can access and view the patient easily yet the child can enter a spacefull of imagination.
TAG’s “Treehouse” Design for the USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital received a first place award in the single-space commercial category in 2014 from ASID Alabama. TAG worked with Fabrication Specialists, Inc. of Mobile and other local artists to make the vision come to life in the completed work.
