MOBILE MUSEUM OF ART

Mobile, Alabama

TAG repositioned the existing 32,000 square feet Mobile Museum of Art and expanded it to a $15 million, 90,000 square feet regional cultural attraction.  Program spaces include flexible galleries for traveling exhibitions and blockbuster shows, galleries for a 5,000+ permanent collection, a local artist gallery concourse, a grand lobby capable of seating approximately 250 dinner guests, full kitchen and banquet facilities, an orientation theater, auditorium, and administrative areas. In addition, the museum offers interactive/interpretive galleries and studios for education and public involvement. The project was completed in September of 2002 as part of the City of Mobile’s Tricentennial Celebration. The Grand Lakefront Lobby acts as the new museum entrance.  A marble staircase advances visitors and guests to galleries and mezzanine on the second floor or downstairs to the administrative offices and research areas.  The balcony is opposite a full length glass wall that overlooks the lake in Langan Park.  The old entrance on the south side of the building has now become the children’s entrance and lobby for the interactive gallery.

MOBILE CONVENTION CENTER

Mobile, Alabama

TAG served as the local architect on the $50 million Mobile Convention Center on Mobile's waterfront which was completed in 1993. The 300,000 square foot award winning building continues to win praises largely because the design directly addresses the needs of meeting planners. It has received an Award of Merit from the American Institute of Architects, Gulf States Region and a Design Award from the Alabama Council, AIA.

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ALABAMA LIBRARY ADDITION

Mobile, Alabama

TAG completed the University of South Alabama Library Addition/Renovation in March of 2003 as part of the University’s 40th Anniversary.  Located on the main campus of USA, the new facility provides a 52,000 square feet addition and over 68,000 square feet of renovated space.   A central, four-story atrium connects the existing and new structures with bridges at each level.  The north glass wall offers researchers an abundance of natural light and views of the campus landscape while exposing a theater of academic activity to the street.  Sophisticated multimedia and interactive auditorium, classrooms and study areas enhance teaching and learning programs and provide venues for distance insensitive presentations.

SPRING HILL COLLEGE - QUINLAN HALL

Mobile, Alabama

TAG renovated Quinlan Hall on the campus of Spring Hill College expanding office spaces, student lounges, and enlarging classrooms.  Originally built in 1898 as an open-air gymnasium, the building became a dormitory in 1915 and classrooms in 1955.  The project was completed and dedicated as part of the Alumni Weekend Activities in March of 2003. TAG preserved the original brick and riveted steel beams exposed in the interior of Quinlan Hall at Spring Hill College. Brick arches that had been boarded up were exposed and converted into windows on the first floor.  TAG added new furniture, fixtures and equipment including mounted overhead projection systems, internet access, DVD and VCR connections.

ALMA BRYANT HIGH SCHOOL

Grand Bay, Alabama

Included in the facility are 45 classrooms, two full laboratories and 9 additional partial laboratory and classrooms, a media center, 1,500 seat gymnasium and 5,500 seat football stadium with complete athletic facilities.  Also, the 750 seat auditorium is near performing arts quality with sloped seating and a stage that functions for both auditorium and gymnasium. Total area of the school is 160,000 square feet

INTEGRITY MEDIA HEADQUARTERS

Mobile, Alabama

The Integrity Media project required a 45,000 square foot corporate headquarters building located in the heart of its campus to improve employee communication, accessibility and productivity of religious items in the form of videos, films, music and publishing of literature.  The new facility projects a "high-tech" international business image while the design remains sensitive to the natural surroundings of the environment.  TAG incorporated a media center to demonstrate the company’s products.  The oval shape of the corporate logo is used as an architectural element throughout the facility in floor and ceiling patterns, signage, cabinet handles, curved wall shapes and entrance canopy to further emphasize the Owner’s mission.

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ALABAMA

PEDIATRIC INTENSIVE CARE UNIT

Mobile, Alabama

TAG transformed an existing courtyard within the facility into an oasis of hope for kids battling cancer.  The hospital’s nautical theme for graphics led a patient to coin the space, “The U.S.S. Hope”.  The new roof was projected above the surrounding building so clerestory windows of blue patterned glass block could be placed along the length of the north and south sides.  To define patient bays, light emitting truss systems wind in and out of wavy pilasters.  Moveable fish-motif banners may be raised for friendly exchange between patients or lowered for privacy.  In 2002, TAG’s design received a First Place ASID Project Award in the Health Care Category.

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ALABAMA
